The main purpose of Parish Council is as a policy board in conjunction with the Rector responsible for conducting ministry within this framework.
Parish Council at St Thomas' comprises:
• 3 Wardens (2 People's Wardens, Rector's Warden); and
• Council Members elected at the AGM.
Wardens
There are three (3) Wardens for the Parish who are responsible for administering the financial and property affairs of the church. The People's Wardens are two (2) qualified people who represent the congregation and are elected by the Annual General Meeting, and the Rector's Warden is a qualified person appointed by the Rector.
Parish Nominators Parish Nominators are responsible for selecting a new minister. Although they may not have any work to do in the near future, their election is very important. Nominators are elected for the Parish rather than any one church.
Synod Representatives The Synod Representatives are elected at the AGM for the whole Parish. Synod Representatives are elected for a period of 3 years. They represent our Parish, attending meetings of the Diocese i.e. Synod.
Criteria for being on Parish Council or a Nominator Candidates need to be active, regular members of St Thomas' Anglican Church. In writing to Timothy (1 Timothy 3), Paul emphasises the importance of appointing mature Christians who are above reproach and lists the qualities they should have.
At St Thomas', we seek to appoint people who are also actively committed to and involved with achieving the mission and vision of our church.
